St Augustine wrote: “Two loves have made two cities. Love of self to the despising of God has made the city of the world. Love of God to the despising of self has made the city of God.” That’s our fundamental spiritual battle: love of God versus the love of self. The love of self involves a value system without God at the center of reality. That means we embrace a “sexuality on our terms” type mentality. In contrast, the love of God embraces a value system that honors Christ as Lord, and therefore sexuality on God’s terms.
